University Campus of Football Business

The worldwide sports industry has a worth upwards of $700bn (US). In the EU alone it employs 1.7m people, and nearly a third of those work in the UK. None of these figures show any sign of slowing down, with new and emerging markets and sectors appearing on a regular basis.

The UCFB is the first higher education institution in the world dedicated to the delivery of university degrees in the football and sports industry. From marketing to coaching, media to finance and event management to hospitality, new roles, and new opportunities are consistently presenting themselves. The concept of UCFB was born from the idea of training and teaching ambitious and talented individuals with the knowledge, principles, and ideas to fill such roles.

After initially opening at Burnley FC’s Turf Moor in 2011, UCFB opened its second campus, with the iconic Wembley Stadium at its heart, in 2014. The opening of a third campus in Manchester at the state-of-the-art Etihad Campus in 2016 marked a significant step in the growth of UCFB.

This was followed by the opening of the Manchester Sports Village teaching facility at Belle Vue in 2019. Today UCFB delivers university degrees from its London and Manchester campuses, whilst our original home at Turf Moor sees BTEC diplomas delivered to sports students.

It’s not just in the UK and Europe where UCFB is making great strides. In 2019 they announced the opening of global hubs in the US, Canada, and Australia through unique partnerships.

A world-first initiative that allows students to access the Red Bull Arena in New York, Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium, BMO Field in Toronto, and the MCG in Melbourne for once-in-a-lifetime learning and networking opportunities with the biggest organisations in world sport.

Having delivered football and sports-focused master’s degrees at UCFB in the UK and online, the Global Institute of Sport (GIS) was launched in 2020 as the new institute for Master’s degrees and executive education.

Over 90% of UCFB graduates are in employment within six months of graduation, with nearly two-thirds working in sport – far above sports graduate averages.

How It Was Founded

The Alan Ball Foundation was set up by Alan Ball’s children Mandy, Keely, and Jimmy to honor their father’s name and continue his passion for creating opportunities for the youth.

Alan strongly believed in supporting children to follow their dream and realised how important it was to have backing, financially, emotionally, and physically to enable them to achieve.

The Alan Ball Foundation

The Alan Ball Foundation is for the benefit of underprivileged children in local communities nationwide and believes that anyone can and should have equal opportunity in sports and the performing arts.

Allowing them to gain training in their chosen sport or activity in a safe environment where they can learn, create and build on their personal skills. We aim to work with young people through social care systems, councils, community groups, and schools to help fund children to attend activities. This could be a grassroots football team, dancing, gymnastics, swimming, tennis in fact any sport. It also applies to the arts for acting, singing, studio sessions, DJing, and music production.

Mental Health Innovations Shout Service

the Shout service is a 24/7 text message service for anybody to text when they may be struggling with anxiety, loneliness, or depression through to self-harm or suicidal thoughts. The service is available 24/7 for someone to get a reply within 5 minutes of their text, and to work through their worries and signpost to any resources and potential services which may assist that individual’s situation and circumstances with the ultimate aim of reducing the level of self-harm and suicide across the UK.

BSG players will have access to the service with a white-labeled keyword allowing us to pull out data and insight to look at trends affecting the individuals we support within our population, to assist in evidence-based decisions on the resources and support services that need to be in place to provide the best possible care and help needed for our academy players.
